从我到你

On May 31, the Lima Art Museum (MALI) presents the 29th edition of its traditional Art Auction. This year features 53 lots, bringing together artists whose practices traverse various media, ranging from the historical to the contemporary.
Auction Description
This auction spans five sessions in a catalog that showcases various fields of Peruvian design, including expressions of regional traditions within its Applied Arts session. The Modern session, which is divided into two parts, features an outstanding selection of the great artists of the 20th century, from Indigenism to Abstraction. For its part, the Historical session integrates the great masters of Peruvian academic painting, as well as traveling and regional artists, alongside exceptional expressions of Colonial art. Finally, the Contemporary session presents some of the most interesting exponents of the current emerging Peruvian art scene.

Vanessa Karin, Lima, 1996
In “Mmm”, artist Vanessa Karin superimposes the sketches of two human faces, outlined through embroidery, onto an indeterminate background—though at times it appears to be blonde hair floating against a light blue backdrop. The features of these faces reference Japanese manga, while the painterly treatment seems inspired by both "glitch" aesthetics (inherent to the digital world) and the developments of abstract painting, oscillating between figuration and abstraction. The artist thus brings together a range of technical and aesthetic references that span a vast temporal and geographical field.
